Our Robotics Program

Soroti High Robotics Team | Soroti, Uganda

Our students love learning robotics!

We founded and sponsor a school-wide robotics program which provides engaging classes from our award-winning on staff robotics teacher, Moses. These classes not only reach our own scholarship students but also expose 650 of their peers to a cutting edge 21st Century curriculum.

During their weeks of school breaks, Moses also teaches robotics to our scholarship students. All told, their year-round focus on robotics is a deeply impactful piece of their overall education.

At its core, robotics is a powerful combination of left-brain and right-brain learning. It calls upon the logical, analytical side of the brain—to code, to solve problems, to work with systems and sequences. But equally, it sparks the creative, intuitive right brain—to imagine what a robot can do, design how it should function, and explore how technology can serve to solve problems — especially environmental ones — both locally and even globally.

In learning robotics, students also build broad-based skills, like communication, teamwork, patience, compromise, tenacity, and leadership, while growing confidence as they have the opportunity to create and influence.

Another benefit of robotics is entering competitions and embedding in cross-cultural
learning and bridge-building with peers from a host of different backgrounds they’d
otherwise never meet. Students come away from these competitions having fostered
an exciting life-long skill of how to be “ambassadors”.

The practice time you see in this video had great results! Our team won first place –
they are Ugandan champions! They now qualify to compete internationally.

We celebrate our key partnership with Soroti High School, where our scholarship students attend boarding school, and where Emmanuel, the Head of School, is a progressive leader and trusted partner.
