Meeting the Need
We bought land!
And we’ve already built a teacher & visitor house with classroom space! Now our sights are on fundraising for a girls’ dormitory, which we’ve completed designing and plotting out a foundation for.
The need is great for helping more young women, especially with recent drastic budgetary cuts to US AID in Africa. As we grow, we need more space for safe housing for our scholarship students during their annual 18 weeks of boarding school closure.
Thanks to our connections in Soroti, we were fortunate to find well-priced land for sale that was perfectly located between Soroti High School and Soroti University.
This ideal spot even fits with our vision of strengthening our vocational training with a hands-on small roadside grocery store for the students to operate, with sales that include their home-made soap & clothing, so they can put their trainings into practice right at the edge of our property.
We’ve already had an outpouring of enthusiasm from visitors inspired to come and join in teaching, including from two painters in Paris! …With the students planning to teach them drumming & dance in return!
As we continue to embrace exciting opportunities for cross-cultural exchange, we invite you to reach out to us if you’re interested in being a teacher, donor, visitor, or volunteer. When you come stay, you’ve even got neighboring eucalyptus trees and a rock outcropping to climb for enjoying views and a visit with local women drying food.
We’re also delighted that our land has enough space for the students to grow organic produce, which they’ll be using as they learn to cook.
We look forward to festive group mealtimes, and community-building filled with music, dance, and storytelling… all parts of what’s enthralling & uplifting about African culture!
Help Us Impact More Lives
With Rotary and donor support, our vision is to build the dormitory and holistic ‘education hub’ by 2028. Thank you for joining in our expansion!
